First Birthday Party!!!

We had a wonderful day celebrating Lauren's first birthday with close family and friends. A few neighbors joined in the fun and Dr. Mills (the hands that brought Lauren into the world) even came by to celebrate with us! Lauren took an almost 3 hour power nap as we worked on setting up for the party. My parents drove down from German Fest in Milwaukee to help set up several hours before the party began. We held her party in our backyard and despite the 90 degree heat, the afternoon shade made it bearable. The 2 kiddy pools we had set up in the yard were a popular attraction for both adults and kids! Lauren seemed to love all the attention and did so well between digging into her cake and going through all her presents later in the day. Everyone was so generous! Her nephew Trevor just couldn't help himself when it came to present time and enjoyed helping her open them all! After cooling off in the pool and washing the frosting from her face and arms, we dressed her in the same traditional German dress that I wore for my first birthday! That one made my dad's day :) Once the party was over and the kids were in bed we spent the evening catching up with dear friends of ours from Milwaukee. Their boys are near Lauren's age and it's so much fun getting together (even if it's only a few times a year). Their the type of friends you catch up with right where you left off the last time no matter the time that has passed.
