So we have been finishing our basement for the past 9-10 months and it has been a very educational and eye opening experience. We decided that paying some company to have it done for us was just going to be too expensive and in addition Sam really wanted to have his hand on the project. We started with priming the floor, framing, and plumbing last fall and winter. My uncle Jeff came in over Thanksgiving weekend to help frame since he's a contractor and could help with the more difficult spots. My parents also have been a huge help with the framing and insulating process.
We had one of Sam's old high school friend's husband do our plumbing and it was a big project! Since he usually does work for commercial projects he didn't think to warn us to turn our furnace off during the concrete cutting process... little did we know we'd show up on a Sunday afternoon after church to a house full of concrete dust covering everything! We spent the entire rest of the day until we went to bed cleaning our house top to bottom. Sam and I learned a large construction lesson that day... turn the furnace off and cover the vents with filter paper when something like that is being done!
Then we had one of Sam's family friends who is an electrician help Sam wire the basement. Sam's dad was also a big help in this project as an extra pair of hands. Then we had a low voltage guy come in and now we're on to drywall.
Sam has been very happy to use his skills and knowledge to have such a large part in finishing this basement. He has truly amazed and impressed me with how much he knows and how handy he is. I can finally start to see the light at the end of the tunnel... now to finish the drywall!
