Dedication Day

We dedicated Lauren on Saturday night at our church - Christ Community in St. Charles. This is a similar concept to baptism in the Catholic church but we believe that baptism is a personal choice that a person makes when they're old enough to understand. Child dedication is a parents way of committing themselves to raising their children to know Jesus with the support of their family, friends, and church community.
We stood up on stage with 6 other families; 3 of which are also in our small group. It was really special and we had a lot of family and friends come as support. After the service we all went to the chapel where one of the elders wrote about the meaning of Lauren's name and prayed over her while our family and friends stood around us. We spent about a half an hour taking pictures with everyone and afterwards went out to a late dinner with our friends Jim and Sara and their boy Lukas (5 days younger than Lauren). The babies slept and we enjoyed a great meal. Lauren did really well and despite being really tired didn't cry during the dedication. I think she was so fascinated by the bright lights shining down on her.
Sam and I are fully committed to raising Lauren in a Christ centered home. We hope that she accepts Jesus into her heart someday and is a light to those around her so that other's will come to know Him as well.
